For the past few months I've avoided writing about, or even reading about, Casey Serin. Casey, for those of you who have somehow missed out, is the man-child behind iamfacingforeclosure.com. Well he has recently reached a new low/level of bizarre behavior which stuns and saddens me.
Casey has taken off for Australia. Apparently he found a way to leave the country and leave behind a trail of foreclosures and bad debts in his wake. Is this surprising? Not really, except for the fact that the he left the country. Seriously. How does someone so publicly declare that they broke the law and then scoot off for the Australian Outback without getting arrested?
Here's where the story goes from irritating and frustrating to down-right disgusting and appalling...
He left his wife behind. He wrote bad check for her to deal with. He left her with CashCall breathing down her neck. He left he penniless to mop up his problems.
In the past I almost felt sorry for Casey. Now, not so much. I wondered how much his wife was really involved in the purchase and financing of these properties. Now I wonder how she is going to survive. Most of what Casey has done has had a surreal quality. It has been easy for his wife to become the punching for many who have watched with disgust the actions of Casey and wondered how she could stand by and not stop him.
It is easy to lose sight of her youth. It is easy to lose sight of what is probably her commitment to make her marriage work. It is easy to lose sight of love. Now she saddled with a tremendous debt burden and is facing this without her husband because he cowardly left the county.
Mortgage fraud had received a lot of well deserved attention as of late. It is my belief that we are just scratching the surface on the wide-spread pain which will be felt in the real estate and mortgage industries. Arizona has recently enacted a mortgage fraud law but I fear there are no laws which will help save Casey's wife from the hell she is about to face.
Have you seen the little snowflake has returned from OZ?
